Nobody says it better than you!

It takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a village to launch a new idea. This Thanksgiving, Respect the Bird! Take the pledge! Click here to be counted. To really get inspired, read these selected comments posted last year on Doug Matthew’s Respect the Bird blog. Read them all here! Do they give you ideas? What will you do in November to Respect the Bird? Share your thoughts!

“Amen! Well said! I think ‘Respect the Bird!’ should be a Thanksgiving motto!”

“Oh, I couldn't agree more. No Christmas in my house till after Thanksgiving. The day after, anyway, then hubby works off the big dinner putting up the outdoor lights, lol!! Thanks for a fun blog!”

“Hey, Doug, I totally agree. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and my whole family still gathers at my mom's house! All 42 of us!!!!! We love the stories as my Nana tells them all in great detail. We love all the kids running around and the teens huddled in a corner trying to be cool, the guys watching football and the dames of the brood play Phase 10!! Then it's time for dessert and my great aunts come over for coffee so what's another 5 people? The more the merrier!!! I LOVE TURKEY DAY!!!!! RESPECT THE BIRD!”

“Exactly, Doug! Around here, there was Christmas merchandise on display right next to the Halloween decorations and poor Thanksgiving was just lost in the shuffle. RESPECT THE BIRD! It also gets me how people rush to get the Christmas decorations down before New Year's Day because ‘Christmas is over’ but Christmas only began on December 25 and isn't over until January 5 is it? Great blog!”

“I'm totally on board with you Doug. This weekend I went to my son’s home and he was playing Christmas music!!!!! This of course gave my daughter that lives with me license to play it too! HA.....NOT WHILE I'M IN THE HOUSE!! Then, my neighbor decked his house out in lights! Give me a break! For me, Thanksgiving is truly my most favorite of all the holidays and the official kick off starts on Friday. Lights are hung the first weekend of Dec. and a tree cut sometime around the 7th. I'm not a scrooge either, but I can only enjoy one holiday at a time.”

“You nailed it Doug. I so enjoy Thanksgiving because life is still simple for a couple of days. Then it goes downhill into $$$ land. AND my house turns into Kris Kringle and Anna Lee land the day after. I so look forward to January when I double the size of my home by taking the decorations down. Happy Thanksgiving, Doug, to you and your family. Enjoy!”

“Haha! Thanks for the chuckle! I'm no scrooge either but when people in the neighborhood have already hung and had their Christmas lights on three weeks before Thanksgiving it's a little crazy!”

“I love your blog! I was ranting (only way to describe it) about decorated houses today. Respect the bird! Put me down for a T Shirt. Mary C could totally turn the economy around with one shirt—LOL”

“AMEN, Doug, AMEN! My poor husband cringed in embarrassment when I actually threw a temper tantrum in the local Costco when they had Christmas decor for sale on July 4th. THE 4TH OF JULY, folks! No, no, no! Take time to RESPECT THE BIRD!! And I want to buy about two dozen of those t-shirts. RESPECT THE BIRD! :)”

“Hola Doug.... aqui...tu correccion... ‘Respeto el p├írajo!’ :) GREAT blog and I whole-heartedly agree....I dig out my Christmas spirit with my Christmas decorations AFTER December 15th... ;)”

“Hi Doug, loved your blog. I love Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday. I was sad this year when the workers were taking the Halloween candy down on one side and on the other side of the aisle they were putting up Christmas stuff :( I went out yesterday to get some towels and such Thanksgiving-related, none to be found! I will admit though that I love Christmas music and I start playing it when I bake the second week of November. Heehee. Can't help myself. But I always feel like I'm breaking the rules. I'm proud of my radio station, not one Christmas song has been played yet! Respect the Bird!!! Happy Thanksgiving!”

“Respect the bird, indeed! The bird has helped me weed out potential husbands twice in my life. One boyfriend brought me 'home for Thanksgiving' to what I SWEAR was the North Pole, it was so tricked out with Christmas decorations. The second was the family who spent more time devouring the newspaper for black Friday deals than they did on the meal itself. Neither of them had me to kiss by New Year’s Eve lol. I'm SO buying one of those shirts, & I'm glad they come in turkey brown! I hope you all have safe travels this year & tell the turkey to buckle up!”
